Consultation & Engagement Strategy

As part of the Council’s commitment to strengthening our engagement with people and communities in Exeter we have now reached a key milestone in that process, with the introduction of our Draft Consultation and Engagement Strategy.


The strategy will provide a clear framework for how we approach consultation and engagement across the council, supporting continuous improvement and helping us to be more accountable and inclusive in how we engage with our communities.



Below is a statement from Councillor Matthew Vizard - Portfolio Holder for Climate, Ecological Change and Communities


I am delighted to introduce Exeter City Council's draft Consultation and Engagement Strategy


We know that meaningful engagement builds trust, strengthens relationships, and leads to better outcomes for everyone. That’s why this strategy prioritises an approach that reflects the diverse voices and lived experiences of residents, community organisations and partners across the city. An approach that is reflected in both our recent residents’ surveys and local government reorganisation engagement work, which combined online and in-person surveys, targeted outreach to community organisations, focus groups and extensive engagement with business and public sector partners.


This consultation also marks the launch of the Council’s new engagement platform, Engage Exeter, which will make it easier for people to get involved and share their views.


I encourage everyone to take part in the consultation and help shape how we work together to build connected and responsive services.

We have tried to be clear and jargon-free, but sometimes it can be difficult to see things that may not always make sense to other people when you're so close to a project. 

Please do remember that this is very much a draft strategy and it will be built out further following feedback.
